The tree measurement lengthwise is from 5 to 10 meters and it has simple and rough leaves on both sides and even slightly discolored. It is found in northeastern Brazil and in ‘Goias’ and ‘Mato Grosso’ states, mainly at Cerradões (vegetation of the brazilian interior), and in isolated areas of pasture. In these regions the trees have preference to the highest parts of the relief, where soils are clayey and well drained.

Resedá (Lagerstroemia) blooms in an exuberantly way in August and September. Its flowers are very gorgeous and can be featured in purple, white and pink colors. Just subsequent to the blooming, in September and October, the fruits ripen and produce an abundant amount of seed capsules, what are spread by the wind. Its wood is heavy and tough and it is used in sophisticated carpentry.

The tree is extremely ornamental when it is in bloom, ideal for landscaping use, especially for urban wooding and reforestation.
